Keynote - The
Critical Need for Improving Process Efficiency in Government
Steve Cooper, Former CIO of DHS
When budgets are shrinking, saving money by maximizing the
efficiency of critical operations within an agency or program
can make the difference between meeting budgetary demands and
cutting services. This presentation will address a number of
issues regarding the current state of process improvement in
government and why CIOs are turning to BPM technology to help
their organizations operate more efficiently, improve customer
service, and meet regulatory requirements. |

CEP for BPM in Federal
Applications
Complex (aka Continuous) Event
Processing is a relatively new technology that is
relevant for situation awareness (e.g. process
exceptions, KPIs, BAM), track and trace (e.g. entity
management), and sense and respond (e.g. dynamic
workflow invocation based on changing circumstances,
automated decision management). This round table will
explore what, why, where and how CEP might provide (or
is providing) value to Federal Government BPM users (and
vice versa). |

Greening The Business
Process
Can BPM have an important role
in a move towards sustainable / green operations? This
session will look at the ways that BPM can assist /
hinder sustainability and the role that government
mandate plays. |

When
Should BPM be Used in Replacing Federal Systems?
Replacement of aging system
applications is a main objective in an increasing number
of government projects. Three common approaches are:
rewrite the application, buy a COTS package, or consider
a BPMS implementation. This discussion will examine
criteria for choosing an approach. And what criteria
should be used when evaluating different BPMSs? Some
real-world government projects will be referenced as
examples. |

SaaS
BPM for Government
BPM technology helps
organizations optimize systems and processes in key
areas such as citizen service, financial performance,
compliance and productivity. Software as a Service (SaaS)
presents an extraordinary opportunity to reduce
technology costs, improve agency efficiency and meet
mandated objectives quickly. This
session will:
- Discuss technology and
security concerns of SaaS environments
- Explore suitable processes
for SaaS BPM
- Discuss the future impact of
SaaS BPM in government
SaaS BPM provides a unique
opportunity for government agencies and departments to
quickly support process improvement initiatives while
reducing costs.

Think
Big, Start Small
This session will cover
examples on how to plan for success in your BPM
initiatives. Specific topics will include: how to choose
your first process, how to generate interest and
excitement within your organization, how to minimize
risk and lower upfront investment costs, and how to
continue to grow BPM’s reach in your organization. The
mantra “Think Big, Start Small” will be discussed in
the context of showing BPM ROI “early and often”. |
